RESPONSIBILITIES

  • The main task is the production of recombinant membrane proteins for biochemical and biophysical assays and for structure determination (X-Ray, CryoEM) in a scientific working group

o   Design of expression constructs using in silico tools

o   Expression of membrane proteins in different systems (mammalian, insects).

o   Purification of membrane proteins.

o   Reconstitution of membrane proteins in Nanoparticles (NanoDiscs, Liposomes)

o   Biophysical assays with membrane protein to characterize binding of interaction partners 

  •  Evaluation and interpretation of the data obtained, as well as their documentation and presentation
  • Written and oral presentations in English for various target groups as well as creating project plans in collaboration with colleagues and customers
  • Organization of your own work and the processes in the function including maintenance and further development of the infrastructure (hardware and IT) for the processing of the research projects
  • Evaluation and implementation of new technologies for the optimal handling of the given tasks

REQUIREMENTS

  • Completed university studies and Ph.D in the fields of biochemistry, biology, chemistry or related fields,  2 years postdoc experience or professional experience, preferably in the field of protein science appreciated.
  • Publications as evidence of scientific success.
  • Proven experience in purification of membrane proteins (e.g. GPCRs, ion channels, transporter).
  • Experience with chromatography systems (e.g. ÄKTA) and processes in the field of protein production.
  • Experience in structure determination and data processing with Cryo-EM. 
  • Experience with Nanobody screening is desirable.
  • Experience with biochemical and biophysical assays with membrane proteins (NanoDSF, SPR, CPM, etc.) is desirable.
  • Talent for coordination and organization as well as communication and team skills.
